The Big Queer Family

Like a lot of people, I'm all about the Brian and Justin. But Queer as Folk is so much more to me than just them... however erotic, romantic, and engaging I find them to be.

Without Brian and Justin, I probably wouldn't have become obsessed with this show, but I'd have still loved it and watched it. That's because I enjoyed so much seeing a self-made family of loving friends and relatives doing their best to accept each other, love each other, care for each other. Did they always succeed? No. But in the end, I am here for the family as much a I am for the love... or more correctly, I see them as being an intrinsic part of each other.

There are those in the fandom who are mostly interested only in Brian and Justin, or even only in Brian or, more rarely, only in Justin. I'm not one of those people.

For one thing, I honestly like and care about all the characters. But more than that, the show's themes, the storylines of the different characters, are tightly interwoven in individual episodes as well as throughout the seasons. Those who watch the show focusing only on Brian and Justin, their fingers heavy on the fast forward button, are missing not only the rest of the show, they are missing important clues as to what's going on with Brian and Justin themselves.

I hope if you're one of those people, that you'll take a second look at the show and see what you've been missing.
